Slovak universities present themselves at EXPO 2025 in Osaka
A Slovak delegation with representatives of universities and the Slovak Academy of Sciences has traveled to Osaka as part of a working visit to Japan. They are presenting themselves at the EXPO 2025 World Fair.
"The World Fair is a place where we should also present education. The participation of a large Slovak academic delegation at the fair only confirms that the internationalization of the higher education and academic environment is important to us. Our universities are presented directly at the Slovak stand through unique exhibition exhibits and videos," said State Secretary for Higher Education and Academic Research Róbert Zsembera.
The Slovak stand at the fair presents, among other things, two exceptional projects in which the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Technical University of Košice participates. The first is innovative personalized implants that are tailored to the patient, also with the help of 3D printing. The university is presenting almost 800 different implants and 7 thousand vertebrae that must meet biomechanical, anatomical and aesthetic criteria and strict biocompatibility criteria.
The second is a world-unique project - the European CustoMed project. This is the segment of the new hospital, which will include a new bioprinter and bioreactor simulating parts of the human body. The special chips (organ-on-chips) created allow, for example, testing the effects of drugs or food outside the human body.
The World Expo in Osaka, Japan, is expected to be visited by a total of more than 28 million people, of which more than 3.5 million from abroad. The aim of Slovakia's participation in EXPO 2025 is to present the country's contribution to global sustainability, highlight the uniqueness of Slovakia in the context of a changing environment and present it as an attractive destination in the field of tourism and business.
More than 12,000 visitors from all over the world will visit the Slovak stand daily. "We are very happy that we were able to host not only a business delegation but also an academic delegation at the Slovak stand. Universities and the Slovak Academy of Sciences are making a good name for us in the world - and where else to present their achievements if not at this very place," emphasized Michaela Kovačičová, Commissioner General of the Slovak participation in the EXPO Osaka 2025 world exhibition.
EXPO 2025 is taking place in the city of Osaka in Kansai Prefecture from April 13 to October 13, 2025.
